Audio tours for people that don’t normally take audio tours

My name is Jami Gong. I was born and raised in Chinatown. These are my blocks. These are my streets. These are my people. So listen to me carefully, and I will take care of you.

Let me take control of your body and mind. I will allow you to observe without being observed. During our time together I will bring you into places you are not supposed to go, so please behave, and be very discrete. If you get caught, leave immediately. Remember: I’m not even existing – I’m just a voice in your head.

Just like good radio makes us rethink the commercial ‘noise’ that we’ve grown accustom to on commercial airwaves, Soundwalk.com forces a rethink on what an audio tour is, and can be. Not free, but if the samples are anything to go by, well worth paying for. For a good sample, start with China Town: http://www.soundwalk.com/#/WALKS/chinatown/data.xml

Reliques

Yves Manchard and Romain Meffre take photographs to make you wonder about the permanence of things. The photos above aren’t from eastern bloc Europe, but Detroit, Michigan.

An amazing gallery of modern ruins:

Dropular

Dropular is a ‘media bookmarking’ service. Kinda like FFFFound I guess, but bookmarklet powered (for members - it’s still in closed beta at the moment) and keyboard navigable.

Banksy’s “Village Pet Store And Charcoal Grill”

Apparently Banksy saw a lady walking a dog with a diamond encrusted collar ignore a man begging on the street, so he created this response.
